Bulk Spool Fishing Line
How does buying bulk Fishing Line work?
I have fished all my life, and have always purchased line on spools to load at home my self. I was checking out the bulk loading machine at the tackle shop today and the owner came over and asked if I needed help, I found out bulk line is half the price I have been paying. I didn’t want to look like I didn’t know how it works so I just told him I would get some closer to fishing season. But I have never seen the machine in operation. Do they put the line on an empty spool for you to load at home or do you bring your reel? Do you just bring the reel or the rod too? Whats the procedure? I want to look like I have done this before.
Spider wire stealth braid is what I’m looking at buying, $30 for a 150yd spool or $15 for 150yd bulk. Also do they let you tie onto your reel? I use a somewhat uncommon knot and backing tape to stop slipping.
Just take the whole reel to the store and tell them that you want some lines. They’ll take care of the rest.
If you really want to save money, you could purchase those one pound spools. Cost per yard with one pound spools will be MUCH lower than regular retail packages. However, you must keep them in a cool place away from sunlight or your line could oxidize before you could use the whole spool. If you purchase your one pound spool at a reasonable price, you don’t even need to use up the whole spool in order to save money. The oldest bulk spool I got on hand is approximately 6-7 years old already. So far, it is still working great.

8 pound spool – Way too big for regular personal use.
PS: My 6-7 years old line is a 6lb test 3 pound bulk spool copolymer line. I got 11,000 yards of line for less than $80. I don’t know when will the line oxidize on me but I still got A LOT of line left on the spool. LOL
